4 Months Old

Dear Hadley and Harper,

You are 4 months old!  I am still begging you to stay little forever, but it is not working.  You girls are much more interactive with other people.  I think you are starting to recognize familiar faces like mine and your daddy's face. You are both so sweet and such good babies.  I can't tell you how many times people come over and say "I have never heard them cry."  You girls do cry but not very often and not very loud....I know that will change but I am enjoying it for now.  I have been trying to take a lot more "videos" of you girls lately because I don't even remember the first few weeks you were home.  I take videos and listen to them over and over again.  You both smile all the time, especially when I come to get you up from your crib. Your daddy and I love to get you when you wake up, you give us a huge, bashful smile.  You still sleep in the same crib at night but we separate you for naps. It is time to break you of your swaddle addiction.  I am doing it slowly...one arm at a time:)
Harper, you are still the better sleeper.  If your sister does not wake you up in the middle of the night then you can sleep for 12+ hours.  Hadley, you usually wake up after 10 hours of sleep and want a little snack.  Daddy likes to call you Pork Chop....but only because you are a good eater.  Don't worry Hadley, I will make sure that nickname does not stick.  This is the first month that you are starting to take predictable naps.  You are still taking 3-4 naps a day.  They are usually 2-3 hours long.  I think this is a little abnormal but I figure you girls just play hard and need to sleep.  You can't stay awake for more than 1 to 1.5 hours.  You start to get cranky after being awake for an hour.  I have been trying to get you girls to take a paci because I think  it will help you take cat naps in your car seats when we are out at a store.  The funny thing is when you were 1 month old I was trying to break you of your need for a paci at night because it was impossible for me to get up and put the paci in all night long for 2 babies...so I know you girls are thinking "make up your mind, mom!"
You have started refusing the bottle until it has been 4 hours between feedings.  I work hard to get 5 feedings in during the day.  You are taking about 4-5 ounces at each feeding.  I am still nursing both of you about 3 or 4 times a day.  This has been much easier since I have been home for the summer.
This is my first week home for summer break and we are spending EVERY waking moment together. It has been blissful to snuggle and play in our PJ's all day.  You girls are too little to go to the pool or be in the sun so we take evening walks and go on lunch dates.
You girls are both enjoying your toys for the first time.  I can lay you both on a playmat and you will stare and smile at the toys hanging down.  You get excited when you accidentally make one of the toys rattle or sing.  But NOTHING is more entertaining then your friend...the Ceiling Fan:)  You will talk and smile at the fan when it is moving.  You are fascinated by the TV, although I always try to turn you so that you do not stare at it, it comes in very handy when you are both crying at the same time. I can put one of you in front of the television for 1 minute will I make a bottle or while I put the other one down for a nap.
Mommy and daddy have found your tickle spot and you will both giggle when we "kiss" you under your chin.

You are both wearing size 1 diapers
You girls are fitting perfectly into size 3month clothing
I think you both weigh about 11.5 pounds (we will know for sure after your doctor's appointment this week)

Love,
Mommy
